COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT AND CONSULTATION CAUSE II ROAD AND DRAINAGE UPGRADES – AUKI TOWN
The CAUSE II Component 1 is a program of roads and drainage improvement and maintenance. It is funded by the World Bank and Australia Government, managed and implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID).
In 2026, HCC and MID will start construction and rehabilitation on a range of road projects around Honiara as part of the CAUSE II program. These include road rehabilitation, bridge rehabilitation, and culvert upgrades at the following sites:
Site No. Site Name Type
Auki, Malaita Province
1 Auki Road Junction Drainage Crossing Drainage Rehabilitation
2 Shoreline Protection Upgrade Shoreline Protection
These projects are being implemented in accordance with World Bank Environmental and Social Standards. As part of this, the CAUSE II project wants to make sure that communities and neighbourhoods close to these activities have opportunities to document and discuss any concerns or suggestions they may have.
The project team needs to understand the local environment and identify potential impacts from the works, such as impacts on fences, gardens, private property, or changes to community access.
In particular, we wish to talk to any community members who are concerned that they will be directly impacted or made vulnerable by the proposed project activities, including women, youth, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
Members of the CAUSE II team will be visiting project sites and engaging with community members in the weeks of 17-28 November 2025.
In addition, members of the project team will be available to discuss the projects at a community meeting. Information on potential local employment opportunities related to these works will also be available.
This meeting will be held on:
• Tuesday 25th of November 2025 at 8:30 - 11:00am at Auki Market
Refreshments will be available.
