Grass Valley Footpath Project Begins

A LONG-awaited footpath project has officially begun at Grass Valley, turning a community vision first proposed early last year into a reality.
Following approval of their application and community consultations, 15 local workers—both men and women—were recruited and completed a seven-day training program through CAUSE II’s Redi4Waka (R4W) initiative.
With new skills and knowledge gained through the training, the community team has now commenced construction works, beginning with ground clearing and form-work preparation. As of today, approximately 90 metres of form-work has been completed, with the full 270-metre footpath expected to be delivered over a 30-day work period.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. John Omani expressed appreciation for the project and the difference it will make for residents.
“This footpath will surely bring safety for the vulnerable members of our community and ease access for those living inland. During rainy weather and at night, walking up the rough track has been difficult and sometimes dangerous. Now, seeing the footpath progressing, we are thankful to CAUSE II for this great help.”
Once completed, the new footpath will improve safety, reduce travel difficulties and provide more reliable access for residents as Grass Valley continues to grow.
The project highlights the impact of community-led infrastructure development, combining local participation, skills training and practical improvements that respond directly to community needs.
