Improving Access and Safety Through Road Maintenance at Matariu
Road improvement works have commenced in Matariu, focusing on blocked drains and minor road repairs to improve safety, accessibility and daily travel for community members.
The road spot maintenance initiative is being delivered under the CAUSE II Project through a team of seven local workers who recently completed a seven-day training program designed to strengthen their skills in community-based infrastructure works.
Over the next 20 days, the team will address sections of road requiring attention, including drainage issues and damaged areas, while extending improvements to other identified locations within the community.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, highlighting the importance of improved drainage and safer road conditions for families who rely on these routes every day.
Beyond the immediate infrastructure improvements, the project is also creating valuable opportunities for local workers to apply newly acquired skills while contributing directly to the development of their own community.
The Matariu road maintenance works demonstrate CAUSE II’s continued commitment to supporting community-led infrastructure improvements that strengthen local capacity and create safer, more accessible communities across Solomon Islands.
