Kerb Painting Project Brightens and Secures Honiara’s Main Roads

7 September 2025

CAUSE II has launched a new kerb painting initiative in Honiara to promote road safety, improve traffic flow for both motorists and pedestrians, and enhance the city’s appearance with brighter, cleaner, and more organized streets.

The activity is part of Component 2: Safe and Inclusive Communities, and is being carried out by beneficiaries who completed the Redi4Waka program under Component 3: Enhanced Urban Productivity. The project not only improves safety by clearly marking traffic zones and increasing the visibility of kerbs, roundabouts, and traffic islands that have often contributed to accidents, but also empowers communities by giving Redi4Waka graduates valuable work experience and income opportunities. At the same time, the newly painted kerbs bring added aesthetic value to the city, creating a more orderly and welcoming environment.

Together, these efforts are helping to build a safer, more resilient, and more beautiful Honiara. Motorists are kindly reminded to drive carefully near ongoing works and to respect the new markings for the safety of all road users.
