Lower Jericho 1 Footbridge Construction Progresses Towards Completion

THE Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement II (CAUSE II) Project has reached another key milestone in the construction of the Lower Jericho 1 Community footbridge, with major structural works now completed and concrete works scheduled to commence.

Implemented by the Solomon Islands Government with support from the World Bank and the Australian Government, the footbridge forms part of CAUSE II's ongoing efforts to improve safe and reliable access for communities across Honiara through its community infrastructure programme.

CAUSE II Works Supervisor, Edward John, said significant progress has been made since construction commenced in May.

"To date, the work group has completed the installation of the four foundation piles, gabion works, and steel reinforcement for the pile caps. Ready-mix concrete pouring is scheduled to commence in the coming day or two, marking another important milestone for the project," Mr John said.

He said that work is progressing steadily with the project expected to be completed within the next two weeks.

"Construction is progressing well, and with approximately two weeks of work remaining, we look forward to delivering the completed footbridge to the Lower Jericho 1 community," he said.

Once completed, the new footbridge will provide safer pedestrian access for residents, particularly women, children, older people, churchgoers, and market vendors who rely on daily movement across the creek.

The CAUSE II Project is implemented by the Solomon Islands Government with support from the World Bank and the Australian Government through the PNG and Pacific Islands Umbrella Facility Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
