Partnership Paves Way for New Seafront Safety Fence at Noro Market

A NEW partnership between the Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement Project Phase II (CAUSE II) and the Noro Town Council (NTC) is paving the way for the construction of a new seafront picket fence at Noro Market, reinforcing a shared commitment to improving public infrastructure and creating safer community spaces.

The collaboration is guided by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed earlier this month, under which the Noro Town Council is providing assistance in kind by supplying construction materials, securing the necessary regulatory approvals, undertaking community awareness activities and supporting stakeholder engagement throughout implementation. The Council will also assume responsibility for the operation and long-term maintenance of the completed fence.

Construction has now commenced, with workers preparing the site and fabricating fence sections ahead of installation.

Once completed, the new fence will provide a clearly defined boundary along the market's seafront, helping to improve safety, support better management of the market area and contribute to a cleaner, more welcoming environment for vendors, shoppers and the wider community.

The project forms part of broader efforts to improve Noro's waterfront and market infrastructure, ensuring public spaces remain safe, accessible and functional for vendors, customers and visitors alike.

Under the partnership, the CAUSE II Project is providing the labour counterpart, technical support and overseeing construction, while the Noro Town Council is providing local coordination throughout implementation.

The project reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to strengthening public infrastructure, improving urban services and supporting local economic development through safer and more resilient community spaces.

The CAUSE II Project is implemented by the Solomon Islands Government with support from the World Bank and the Government of Australia through the Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands Umbrella Facility Multi-Donor Trust Fund (PPIUF). The project aims to strengthen urban resilience, improve public infrastructure and create meaningful livelihood opportunities, particularly for women and young people.
