Seven Community Groups Now Engaged in CAUSE II WCC Initiative in Noro and Munda

THE Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement II (CAUSE II) Project continues to support cleaner urban communities in Western Province, with seven community groups now actively engaged under its Waste Collection and Cleaning (WCC) initiative in Noro and Munda.

Implemented by the Solomon Islands Government with support from the World Bank and the Australian Government, the WCC initiative provides short-term employment opportunities while helping improve environmental cleanliness and public spaces within participating communities.

Titus Maina of CAUSE II Project’s Noro PIU (Project Implementation Unit), said six community groups are currently carrying out waste collection and cleaning activities in Noro, while one additional group is operating in Munda.

"The seven groups are actively engaged in keeping public areas clean while contributing to improved environmental health and community wellbeing," Mr Maina said.

The WCC initiative forms part of CAUSE II's commitment to improving urban services while creating temporary employment opportunities for vulnerable community members through labour-based public works.

The CAUSE II Project is implemented by the Solomon Islands Government with support from the World Bank and the Australian Government through the PNG and Pacific Islands Umbrella Facility Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
