383 Graduates Ready to Support Community Works

15 August 2025

The Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement II (CAUSE II) Project is making strong progress under its Component 3 – Redi4Waka, with 383 community members successfully completing work-readiness training as of 15 August 2025. The training was delivered by the Project Management Unit (PMU) and Project Implementing Units (PIUs) across participating urban centers.

These newly trained graduates are now preparing to support a wide range of community works, including footpath construction, solar light post installation, and reflective kerb painting along main roads. PIUs have already scheduled teams to install solar posts on completed Jacob’s Ladders and new footpaths, ensuring safer and more accessible public spaces for local communities.

The Redi4Waka program equips participants with practical job skills, essential life skills, and awareness on climate resilience. By doing so, it builds confidence and prepares graduates for short-term engagement in CAUSE II works while also opening pathways to longer-term employment opportunities.

CAUSE II is a transformative Government of Solomon Islands initiative that seeks to improve climate-resilient infrastructure, enhance economic inclusion, and strengthen service delivery in targeted urban centers. The project is led by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Honiara City Council, in partnership with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey and the Provincial Governments of Guadalcanal, Malaita, and Western Province. It is supported by the World Bank and the Government of Australia through the Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands Umbrella Facility Multi-Donor Trust Fund (PPIUF).
