CAUSE II and Noro Town Council Deliver Safer Footpath for AOG area and Neighboring Communities Noro, Western Province
The Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement Project II (CAUSE II) has successfully completed the AOG Footpath Project in Noro Town, creating a safer walking route for pedestrians, school children, and office workers.
The new 310-meter concrete footpath links to the newly-improved municipal road network in Noro and surrounding public facilities, improving pedestrian mobility and access to key services and businesses.
Implemented in collaboration with the Noro Town Council and Western Provincial Government, the project engaged over 25 local workers - more than half women and youth - under CAUSE II’s community-based contracting model, combining short-term employment with on-the-job training in concreting and finishing works.
Resident Works Supervisor, Titus Maina said, “The OAG Footpath may seem small, but it makes a big difference for everyday movement for residents in the area. It’s a practical example of how community effort and project support can make our town safer and more inclusive.”
Under CAUSE II’s Component 2 (Safe and Inclusive Communities), the footpath forms part of ongoing efforts to promote safe, inclusive, and climate-resilient urban communities by empowering vulnerable groups — especially women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) — through skills development, access to income opportunities, and participation in community-driven infrastructure and services.
