CAUSE II Redi4Waka Training Empowers Local Communities

HONIARA, Solomon Islands – THE Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement II (CAUSE II) Project continues to support local communities through its Redi4Waka (R4W) training program.

 

The R4W is a seven-day training that helps participants gain basic skills so they can be ready for work. Training topics include: Health, Hygience and Nutrition, Gender Equality and Inclusion, Climate Change and Disaster Preparedness, Finding Work and Making a C.V, Starting and Income Generating Project, Budgeting and Savings, Building Workplace Soft Skills, Workplace Safety and using tools and Working in CAUSE.

 

This training program focuses on helping youths, women and other vulnerable groups take part in work opportunities and improve their livelihoods. Upon completing the training, participants will then join a short-term paid work placement with CAUSE working on various projects. These include; Jacobs ladders (concrete staircases), footpaths and footbridges, community buildings and markets, boat jetties, improve public spaces and other small constructions, community-led road maintenance and drainage, waste cleaning and collection, and solar-powered LED lighting installation.

 

The R4W training program recently completed batch 14, comprising of 39 participants from three communities in Honiara. They include; Jericho Community (18 participants), Rifle Range Community (14 participants) and Koloale Community (7 participants).

 

“At the end of the training, participants receive a training completion certificate, and will soon begin short term paid work in their own communities. These participants are now better prepared to take on work in their own communities and contribute to local development. CAUSE II is helping create jobs, support families, and build stronger communities across Solomon Islands,” Training and Support Services Team Leader Judy Fangalasu’u said.

 

CAUSE II, implemented by the Solomon Islands Government, is supported by the World Bank and Australia through the PNG and Pacific Islands Umbrella Facility Multi-Donor Trust Fund. This initiative is aimed at improving urban infrastructure, enhancing climate resilience, and creating employment opportunities in key urban centers of Solomon Islands.
