Inclusive Training Milestone: CAUSE II Empowers 13 Persons with Hearing Impairment in Batch 8
A significant milestone in inclusive urban development was achieved last week as the CAUSE II Training Team in Honiara proudly completed Batch 8 of its “Redi4Waka” work readiness training. This cohort was especially remarkable — among the 42 trainees were 13 individuals with hearing impairments, making it the most inclusive batch to date.
In a powerful demonstration of CAUSE II’s commitment to equitable economic opportunity, the training was delivered with the full support of sign language interpreters who translated the entire 7-day curriculum. This marked the first time the team implemented a fully inclusive training model — an experience both challenging and rewarding for all involved.
The trainees engaged in modules covering job preparedness, workplace conduct, safety, and environmental awareness. Their enthusiastic participation showcased the potential of accessible learning environments and reaffirmed CAUSE II’s focus on enhancing economic inclusion and resilience in Solomon Islands’ urban centers.
By next week, these graduates will attend their first work engagement induction, preparing to take part in short-term employment under CAUSE II’s waste collection and cleaning programs. These placements not only offer immediate income opportunities but also lay the foundation for longer-term personal and professional growth.
This achievement is a testament to CAUSE II’s mission to foster climate-resilient infrastructure, inclusive employment, and strengthened service delivery in Honiara and beyond.
