Noro PIU Advances Footpath Works and Community Programs

The Noro Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in Western Province is making steady progress under the Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement II (CAUSE II) Project, with new infrastructure and community initiatives well underway.

Work has commenced on the AOG Footpath, which began on 29 September, providing safer and more reliable pedestrian access for local residents. This project forms part of CAUSE II’s commitment to delivering climate-resilient infrastructure that connects communities and improves daily life. Preparations are also in motion for the upcoming Ports Area Footpath, further expanding the network of accessible walkways in Noro.

In parallel, the Waste Collection and Cleaning (WCC) program continues to create a cleaner and healthier environment for residents. Seven new WCC contracts were launched in October, with works already visible across Noro and Munda’s central business districts. These contracts not only address waste management challenges but also provide important employment opportunities at the community level.

Meanwhile, the Ready for Waka (R4W) training program reached another milestone with Batch 5 currently in progress. The program continues to equip youth and unemployed residents with essential skills and confidence to access future employment opportunities, building both livelihoods and resilience within the community.

Together, these initiatives highlight CAUSE II’s dual focus on infrastructure development and social inclusion, ensuring communities in Western Province benefit from safer access, cleaner environments, and stronger pathways to employment.

The Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement II (CAUSE II) Project is a transformative initiative aimed at improving climate-resilient infrastructure, enhancing economic inclusion, and strengthening service delivery in targeted urban centers across the Solomon Islands.
