CAUSE II Equipping Thousands for Employment and Economic Opportunity
THOUSANDS of Solomon Islanders continue to benefit from new skills, employment opportunities, and income-generating activities through the CAUSE II Project's Enhanced Urban Productivity program.
At the heart of the initiative is Redi4Waka, a flagship work-readiness program designed to equip unemployed and vulnerable urban residents with practical job skills, life-skills training, and climate-resilience awareness while preparing them for employment opportunities both within and beyond the project.
Implemented under Component 3 of the CAUSE II Project, Redi4Waka is helping participants build the confidence and capabilities needed to enter the workforce, improve their livelihoods, and contribute positively to their communities.
The program forms part of a broader effort to strengthen economic inclusion and productivity across urban centres in Solomon Islands, including Honiara, Auki, Gizo, Noro, Munda and the Greater Guadalcanal areas.
By the end of implementation, the project is expected to:
- Train more than 700 people in literacy and numeracy skills;
- Support over 1,600 micro-business owners through income-generation training; and
- Provide approximately 4,700 vulnerable people with training and short-term employment opportunities.
Beyond the numbers, Redi4Waka is helping participants gain practical skills in job searching, preparing professional CVs and application letters, interview preparation, workplace expectations, communication, teamwork, and personal development.
The training also provides a pathway for participants to access employment opportunities and community-based work activities, including footpath construction, solar light installation, road safety improvements, and community infrastructure maintenance.
The program is designed not only to address unemployment but also to help people build resilience, confidence, and long-term prospects for economic participation.
As implementation continues across the country, Redi4Waka is playing a key role in creating pathways to employment and supporting a more productive and inclusive urban economy for Solomon Islanders.
